Touch wood or Knocking on wood

A traditional English saying to avoid tempting fate and bring good luck. “Touch wood” should be said while literally touching, tapping or knocking on wood. These touch wood pendants have been designed with a wooden heart at its centre so that the wearer can literally ‘touch wood’ and superstitiously bring about good luck and repel bad luck.

The origin of the term ‘touch wood’ is believed to date back to Celtic folklore where supernatural beings were thought to live within the trees. Folklore believed that these beings could be called upon for protection. Many believed that the woodland was home to fairies, spirits and other mythical creatures and that knocking on wood was a way of requesting good luck distracting evil or mischievous spirits.
