1. Dandelions are known for their ethereal puffball appearance and feature in many folklore myths and superstitions.. For centuries people have picked dandelions and blown the seeds to make a wish. It is believed that dandelions will grant your wish and carry your thoughts and dreams to loved ones.
2. Make sure to take a deep breath before you blow, as legend has it that if you can blow all the seeds off in one go the person you love will love you back!
3. Dandelion Seeds are often carried as many as 5 miles from their origin!
4. Pre-twentieth century, gardeners often weeded out the grass to make room for dandelions as they were considered good luck. Unfortunately, around the 20th century pristine lawns became popular and the dandelion started to be thought of as a weed.
5. Dandelions are symbolic of hope and survival. They can take root almost anywhere and are almost impossible to permanently remove from your garden. Dandelions sink their roots by as much as 15 feet and can live for years. Dandelion leaves can even push through concrete and other hardened surfaces, in fact the sharpness of the leaf is how the dandelion got its name, originally pronounced “dent de lion” meaning “lion’s tooth”
6. In Greek mythology Theseus ate as many dandelions as he could for 30 days before his battle with Minotaur. The dandelions are said to have given him the strength he needed to find his way through the maze. And so, the dandelion came to symbolise positive hope for anyone trying to face a challenge.
7. Dandelions symbolise good health, healing, happiness and getting what you wish for. In many cultures the dandelion is considered a symbol of good luck and success.
